Coming Soon - Application Required

Application

As per the handbook, all choir students are highly encouraged, though not required, to take private voice lessons. Usually, this costs about $25-35/half hour depending on the voice teacher the student chooses outside of school. We also understand that many students cannot afford to take private lessons, so in order to provide more of an equal opportunity for all students, we have started a program in which students get to take private voice lessons with either our director or our instructional aide FREE OF CHARGE! Because space is limited, however, all students wanting free voice lessons will need to send in an application, and it first comes first serve.

In students' private voice lessons, we warm up with the students, test their range, and we work with students on whichever skills and goals they desire while also offering opportunities to expand their musical skills. Usually, we choose a classical piece for them based on their vocal range while also allowing them to do a song of their choice. Then, these students get to audition for such things as Solo & Ensemble and perform prepared solo/group acts in our concerts!

Expectations

In order for private voice lessons to work, these expectations MUST be strictly followed. Failure to meet these expectations will result in opening a spot for another student who wants private voice lessons. All students will thus be expected to follow the requirements below:

Practice Expectations

Students must show evidence in their lesson that they have been practicing every day. They can do so by demonstrating what they've been working on, and we must be able to see improvement.

Students will also be expected to keep a practice journal in which they will write down what they learned in their lessons as well as what and how they have been practicing each day. This way, they can keep track of their progress.

Attendance

Students are expected to come to all their voice lessons. If they should reschedule, they MUST communicate with their instructor ahead of time. This is how students should also initially schedule their lessons. They MUST communicate with their instructor and fill out the contract completely.

Attitude and Grades

Students MUST maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher in order to qualify for voice lessons. If a student should let their grades slip, their slot will be given to another student.
